…this is Joey Joe’s second beat flip in OKP’s “The Lesson” message board forums (lank: http://tinyurl.com/OKProducersChopMay2013 ) for May 2013 where I had to sample from a song by Stanley Myers; since I sampled a lot of parts from the song, and had chopped up samples that I didn’t use in the first beat I made, I decided to go a boom-bap route on this version. I used the same drums but made the kick & snare louder, made a new drum pattern, played the samples at different pitches, and instead of using the bassline from the original song, I got a moog bassnote from a Rick Wakeman song and played the bassnote to fit the simple melody I created.
…this is Torchbaras’ beat flip in OKP’s “The Lesson” message board forums (lank: http://tinyurl.com/OKProducersChopMay2013 ) for May 2013 where he had to sample from a song by Stanley Myers.
This was Torchbaras’ workflow for this beat: (1) built the (repetitive) piano line 1st & added another one on top to make it more dynamic, added crackle; (2) found a couple of bassnotes that fit the line, programmed and added spice (jumpy switchup to reloop), lofi crushed afterwards; (3) kept the drums simple, tried to bring out bottom & smack nonetheless, no hats; (4) added the voxchops from an outside source and thats that!!!
…this is Dee Mack’s beat flip in OKP’s “The Lesson” message board forums (lank: http://tinyurl.com/OKProducersChopMay2013 ) for May 2013 where he had to sample from a song by Stanley Myers. Dee Mack came up with a basic hip-hop pattern while fading in & out a few sampled layers on top, and throwing in some James Brown vox here & there; dopeness.
…this is Vahe aka Mista Vee’s beat flip in OKP’s “The Lesson” message board forums (lank: http://tinyurl.com/OKProducersChopMay2013 ) for May 2013 where he had to sample from a song by Stanley Myers. He chopped up two parts of the sample and built the track from there; the two main chops from the sample source is a quiet synth (which opens the track & set out the chords/melody), and then switches to another loop from the sample source but is kinda meshed with the warm synth that he layered on top of it. Then Vahe played some tambourine and gave it a variable pitch all throughout the track & reversed it; and played sum bongos which comes in around the 2nd half of the track.
Mista Vee continues to surprise me when he make tunes, Vahe’s beat has a simple broken-beat vibe, then at the end when he changes up the drums and then gives the beat a deep tech-house touch with extra layers added. Wish he kept the 2nd half of the track going just 30 seconds to 1 minute more, oh well, it’s still dope.
…this is LiveGuy aka Mr. Grinch’s beat flip in OKP’s “The Lesson” message board forums (lank: http://tinyurl.com/OKProducersChopMay2013 ) for May 2013 where he had to sample from a song by Stanley Myers. He sampled, chopped, & played the first & second sequence backwards; added garnish like the female vox & Large Professor’s vocal deeeep underneath. Then he played baseline on lil’ keyboard, put Mario effects thrown in just for the hell of it, then added the crackle for effect.
I’m diggin’ the bounce of LiveGuy’s drums, it got that early 90’s hip-hop vibe when back in the day you heard underground hip-hop in the clubs.
…this is Sahvi’s jazzy beat flip in OKP’s “The Lesson” message board forums (lank: http://tinyurl.com/OKProducersChopMay2013 ) for May 2013 where he had to sample from a song by Stanley Myers. He tuned the sample down pretty good and put together the main loop, decided not to add any bass instead, he used an 808 with the drums to add to the subs; found a nice change-up loop & a sax in another song by Yoshiko Kimura’s titled “Gentle Rain”. Sahvi then finished the beat by adding some strings, some percussion, and little variations here and there.
…this is the first of two beat flips I did for a beat competition in OKP’s “The Lesson” message board forums (lank: http://tinyurl.com/OKProducersChopMay2013 ) for May 2013 where we had to sample from a song by Stanley Myers. I did my usual sampling, choppin’ up, pitch the bits & pieces to a bpm, played & layer the samples, and then add some drums which I also chopped up as well.

…someone told me about this even though I wasn’t even aware of it but these kats 3rdiiiUth who took one of my ooold beats “Cleo’s Basement” off my old beat tape “Basement Beatz From Da East”, looped the beginning of it, and rapped over it, pretty cool song (about smokin’ weed), and even gave me credit, I can’t front I’ve looped up other producers beats a million times in the past before I bought a sampler.
“Nutin’ Ta Lose (Marley’s Mix)” by Dred Scott
…I was going thru some records I haven’t organized or put up yet and this gem was there, every joint by Dred Scott (from his only album) was dope but what’s so special about this is that this song was remixed by Marley Marl (aka The Legend), one of my all-time favorite hip-hop producers. The vibe is what you expect from the early ‘90’s hip-hop sound, it’s got a bouncy upbeat track (I diggin’ the horns in this) with dope lyrics but not too hard.
“Crickets” by Moka Only & Chief
…this collaboration with Moka Only spittin’ his usual down to earth rapping and a Switzerland producer Chief making that knockin’ head nodding wonky beats is a perfect match, this track sets off the album and is a dope opener, this came out back in 2011, damn I slept on this project, better late than never though.
“Tropicana” by Moka Only & Chief
…I just got the word about this and mane the “Crickets” album is nice, lyrically it’s what I expect from Moka Only, usually I only like it when he’s spittin’ over his own beats, so I was kind of hesitant about this producer from Switzerland named Chief but his production is smooth & dope, this song is one of the highlights on there, peep it.
